Snow Day 3, 4, & 5 of 2014

Our 3rd and 4th snow days have been a little more exciting! We heard about the big storm headed our way for DAYS! Students were out of school yesterday due to the anticipation that it would start during the day and buses would not be able to get students home. I took the girls to day care and headed in to school to get a little work done. At 11:45 the first few flakes started to fall. I left school and went to Target to get a few essentials (milk, bread, formula, cocoa for cookies, Valentines cards) and then picked up the girls. When we got home, it was snowing hard, but little flakes and the wind was blowing so it wasn't really sticking. By 2:45, we had 2 inches of snow. We probably had 3 inches before we heard the snow change over to sleet. When we went to bed, it was still icing. This morning when we got up, it started snowing again. REALLY HARD! And it kept snowing until  about 2:00 today. We got at least another 4 to 6 inches. Several people in town said they had 9 inches in their yard. It was beautiful this morning. We all went out together before lunch and then Bart and Olivia went back out after it stopped snowing. When we went outside, it was hard to walk because there is snow on the bottom, then a layer of ice, then another layer of snow. We also got some entertainment out of watching people try to get out of our neighborhood. Bart actually went down and helped 2 people out. After it stopped snowing, the sun came out and the melting began. All the snow you see on the trees and bushes in the pictures below had already melted off this afternoon. And the snowman's head had fallen off too! They finally scraped our road this afternoon, but now that it has melted some, it looks like a sheet of ice. I'm glad Bart doesn't have far to drive in the morning to work.
Bart and Olivia had to go out Wednesday afternoon. They could hardly wait to get outside!

The snowflakes were HUGE today when we went out!

The NC State Fan snowman! He was over 6 feet tall!
